Monthly Favorites – August
Fall is in the air, and I’m almost peeing myself with excitement. To say that my husband and I aren’t a fan of summer would be an understatement. I know I probably upset a lot of people with that statement, but it’s true. Joseph is from Montana, and I get a sunburn faster than a girl can take her bra off at the end of a long day. I’m sick this weekend and I’ve fallen off the map a bit, but I’m really excited to share my August monthly favorites with you!
My skin and hair were under major attack last month, so most of my August monthly favorites are from those areas since I was trying to find anything that would soothe my pissed off scalp and skin. But I would say this is definitely the most wallet-friendly favorites post I’ve done so far. (Stay tuned for my full skincare regimen post — it’s coming soon!)
My favorite products from the month of August:
Cetaphil Gentle Skin Cleanser: As I said before, my skin went through hell and back this past month. Nothing was working. Finally I decided to go back to a product that my dermatologist recommended when I was in high school, which is this cleanser. Cetaphil Gentle Skin Cleanser is the kind of basic you want in your life. It’s so gentle and when my skin is inflamed or sensitive, this doesn’t feel like it’s stripping my skin. And it’s from the drugstore! Check it out here.
CeraVe Moisturizing Cream: This moisturizer is the perfect complement to the Cetaphil cleanser. It also comes in a massive container, which is amazing since so many skincare products are freaking expensive. I use this moisturizer as the base of my routine, which means that I use it and add my other oils and enhancers before or mixed in with this. I love this moisturizer. Check it out here.
TRESemme Deep Cleanse Shampoo: I’ve been testing out so many different types of hair care products lately, but I’ll be honest with you, none of it was working. I used completely clean hair care for about 3 months, and my hair started getting horrible build-up and looked dead/limp. Full disclosure, this shampoo does have a few of the “ingredients to avoid in shampoos.” I use it only 1-2 times per week to get all of the build-up out of my hair, but my hair is SO much happier. Check it out here.
The Ordinary 100% Cold-Pressed Rose Hip Seed Oil: I cannot recommend The Ordinary enough. I was really close to including all of my products from this brand in my August Monthly Favorites, but decided not to since I’m writing a full post on my skincare routine. Seriously though, half of my skincare comes from The Ordinary. I know it’s super confusing to purchase items with the ingredient name instead of just “oily/dry/acne prone skin moisturizer” etc, but trust me it’s worth it. I’m going to scare some of my oily/sensitive girls, but I use this before bed every night. “Jenn won’t that make my oil worse?” No, it won’t. You actually need to give your skin enough oil so it’s not overproducing on its own. This keeps my oil in check and I wake up with soft and hydrated skin. I recently picked up my second bottle because I love this so much. Check it out here.
MAC Matte Lipstick in Persistence: All of my fall fantasies are literally pressed into this lipstick. It’s described as a peachy cinnamon on the website, though I would say on my lips it pulls more of purple/reddish cinnamon. Keep in mind that although this says “matte,” it really just means no shine, because it’s not kiss or transfer proof. But it’s creamy and it gives the lips a matte, but hydrated appearance. Check it out here.
Other August Monthly Favorites:
- Movie – Angus, Thongs and Perfect Snogging (no shame — this movie is the business)
- Scent – Elizabeth and James Nirvana Bourbon (oaky, vanilla musky sexy goodness in a roller ball)
- Store – World Market
- Baths – LUSH (Twilight is one of my favorites)
So that’s it for my favorites for the month of August! Be sure to let my know what your favorites were for this month! 🙂
