Songs of My Childhood – The 90s
It’s 2017. I’m just letting that sink in as I’m reflecting on the songs of my childhood. I’m a 90s kid (1991), and in my personal opinion, the 90s era was the best. We had Lisa Frank, Dunkaroos, Fresh Prince, blow-up furniture, Limited Too, butterfly clips. We were in the beginning of the digital age, but not completely consumed by it. There was also some amaze-balls music too.
I compiled a much longer list than this, but join me on my walk down memory lane.
B*Witched – C’est la Vie
Can we just take a moment to admire that thumbnail? Oh, and there’s random river dancing. Not to mention the blonde in this reminds me of Lucy from 13 Going on 30.
Britney Spears – Baby One More Time
Back in the 90s, Britney was queen and we were just living in her world. Though I will forever think of Freaky Friday when I hear this song… Ahhhh Chad Michael Murray.
Hanson – Mmmbop
Not even sorry about getting this song stuck in your head. Does anyone really know the correct lyrics to this song?
Sir Mix A Lot – Baby Got Back
I still know this entire rap. I’m quite proud of it… I may even add it to my resume. Ross and Rachel would be proud.
A*Teens – Upside Down
There’s not much that I’m embarrassed to admit… but I am embarrassed I liked this song. Why is it so flipping catchy? And no, I totally didn’t have this on repeat while writing this post…
Backstreet Boys – I Want It That Way
A classic. At my school you were either a Backstreet girl or an NSYNC girl, though if I’m being honest, I was both. And since Burger King was actually pretty good back in the 90s, it made for a pretty hilarious joke when this song came on the radio.
Aaron Carter – I Want Candy
Before Justin Bieber, there was Jesse McCartney. And before Jesse McCartney, there was Aaron Carter. The boy who threw a huge party and told us about how he beat Shaq at basketball. Oh, and Lizzie McGuire was there.
Spice Girls – Wannabe
You can’t make a 90s list without Spice Girls. It would just be unnatural.
Smash Mouth – All Star
Smash Mouth was my first concert. This song was like the best pump up song before a soccer game. Well, this and having one of those Capri Sun drinks.
Aqua – Barbie Girl
So many sleepovers that I went to growing up had this song blaring through the night… “Come on Barbie, let’s go party!”
Christina Aguilera – Come on Over
I remember thinking this song was so risqué since it had the word “sexuality” in it. The Christina vs. Pink fandom was real.
NSYNC – Tearin’ Up My Heart
Last but not least. No regrets. NSYNC and Backstreet Boys were my bread and butter, and definitely the most fun to dance to with friends.
In no way is that list comprehensive… I definitely jammed out to some Hootie and the Blowfish, REM’s Shiny Happy People, a little Shania Twain, and of course Madonna. What were your favorite songs in the 90s? Leave me a comment and we can reminisce!
